April 7th - Mark the Date ! "Spring is in the Hair" Beauty event to benefit Austin Pets Alive

Keith Kristofer Salon and Spa will be hosting an instructional beauty event labelled "Spring is in the Hair", featuring three "Blow Out" classes (three separate and awesome technique demonstrations), and a make up class. There will be other demonstrations as well along with food, drink and a chance to learn more about adopting through Pets Alive.

Price to attend is $25.00 at the door, all of which will be donated to Austin Pets Alive. All of the profits from the sale of styling products and tools will also be donated. It's going to be fun.

New Product Line

We now carry the Wella Professional product line, which is a great lower cost alternative to our two Luxury Lines, Oribe and Kerastase. We like the Wella products a lot and at roughly 1/3 the price of the luxury lines, they offer a lot of bang for the buck.

It's that time again. We have just begun interviewing for a new Associate, which is what we call our entry level stylists. Associates are basically stylists in training. Having really good ones is absolutely critical to making our operation run.

New front desk face soon

Sasha will be moving back to the shore at the end of the month, (Jersey), to pursue new career paths and school. We hired a new smiling face up front yesterday. Her name is Joanna and she has previous salon and spa experience so the learning curve should be small. Learning to schedule appointments in a salon might not seem too difficult, but it is. Not only do you have to learn all the timings of the different levels of stylists, you also have to learn the preferences and unique situations involved for each customer. Joanna is originally from Massachusetts, which puts two yankees up front, but she's not straight up, hard core Boston like Andrea who never said an "R" in her life, so we think it's going to work out.

New semi-nekked photoshoot

Okay so nobody was really nekked, but we got your attention right? We just completed a photoshoot were the idea was to feature beauty stripped down to it's bare essentials. We wrapped the models, (our own ladies once again), in white translucent fabric and not much else except wild colorful hair and makeup. You can see the photos in the "Oribe Backstage Photo Contest" photo gallery.

Changes at the Front Desk

You may know by now that Autumn is getting married, which is wonderful. Autumn is also moving back to Stephenville, which is not wonderful (not for the Salon anyway.) Her husband to be, Shane Beavers, lives in Stephenville, so we weren't completely shocked at the announcement. Autumn's new nickname, provided by Jesse, is Autima Beavers. Kinda has that soap opera-Hillbilly Handfish'n ring to it. We love it. Not sure Autumn does though. Her last day is right before the Thanksgiving break and the wedding will be in January. We're closing at noon so everybody can go down there and dance shoeless.

Sasha will be taking over the lead front desk position. Sasha's new nickname (because almost everybody here has one), is Sasha Fierce. Her old nickname, inadvertently coined by Keith in a moment of social ineptitude, was frowned upon by all.

Jesse has moved on to a retailing/management position elsewhere, but he's been in since he left and we will also see him at our Halloween party. We wish him the best of luck with his new position and with his real estate classes.

Andrea, a.k.a Angie, a.k.a. Murray, a.k.a. Ang, (yes, she really has that many nicknames), will be working at the front desk temporarily, (possibly until the end of the year), at which point we will bring in another full timer.

Dermaplaning

Also known as Epidermal Leveling, Dermaplaning is a very effective exfoliation technique that has the added advantage of removing the fine vellus hair of the face ("peach fuzz").

Dermaplaning removes the outermost layers of dead skin cells and is appropriate for all skin tones. It isn't recommended for those with acne or extremely productive sebaceous glands, but for everybody else, it's a fantastic alternative to peels or microderm. The procedure removes 2-3 weeks of dead skin cells along with the vellus hairs, resulting in extremely smooth skin.

We haven't had a lot of interest in this new procedure so far, and we think it's because it's not well known, which is a shame. Dermaplaning produces real, visible results for price that is very reasonable compared to other more equipment intensive (expensive) procedures.

Bohemian themed photoshoot...done and done

A good portion of the salon was involved in two "boho" themed photoshoots done over two weekends at the end of September. Results appear in the "Photo Galleries" section of the website. One weekend was shot in the "country" while the other was shot on the UT campus with an urban backdrop. We used our own staff as models.
