If you choose to tip, the way you pay it makes no difference.  Every dime of every tip goes straight to the service provider.  Tips given to the front desk are paid to the service provider on their checks.  Both the service provider and the salon pay their share of taxes on all tips no matter how they are given, so there is no advantage in tipping the service providers directly.
